Know Your Knots

Families
will learn about types of rope and how to tie five useful knots.
Children will receive a knot tying guide and rope to take home.
Presented by the Shallotte River Sail and Power Squadron.

day. Bring your family for a guided scavenger hunt in our Ocean Reef

Seven Steps to
Shoreline Safety
|
Aquatic
life, rip currents and safety tips are discussed in a positive, interactive
atmosphere to help your child be safe in and around the ocean. Fun
sea-bottle craft and a visit from the fire truck and rescue boat are included.

Megabites!
|
Some
species of sharks can have up to 3000 teeth. Learn about sharks that
live in our waters, what to look for, and how to play it safe. Then go
outside to dig for shark teeth to keep and identify the species of shark teeth
you find.

Touch Tank Feeding
& Shell ID

Watch
Museum docents feed sea stars, urchins, shelks, crabs, fish, and other animals
in our touch tank. Bring your favorite shell and docents will help you
identify it.

Ghost Lore &
Legend Walk

Fun
for all ages, begin in our learning center and walk to two haunted locations
with local ghost story author, Will Smith. Outdoor walk, weather
permitting; or inside the Museum if inclement weather.

Snakes Alive!

Learn
about venomous and non-venomous snakes that live in our coastal region.
See live snakes and other live reptiles. Presented by Matthew Bookout.
